The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss) - Betty Everett (1964)

Does he love me, I wanna know

How can I tell if he loves me so

(is it in his eyes) Oh no, you'll be deceived

(is it in his eyes) Oh no, he'll make believe

If you wanna know if he loves you so

It's in his kiss (that's where it is, oh yeah)

(or is it in his face) Oh no, it's just his charm

(in his one embrace) Oh no, that's just his arm

If you wanna know if he loves you so

It's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Oh oh, it's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Oh oh oh, kiss him and squeeze him tight

And find out what you wanna know

If it's love, if it really is

It's there in his kiss

(how 'bout the way he acts) Oh no, that's not the way

And you're not listenin' to all I say

If you wanna know if he loves you so

It's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Oh yeah, it's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Whoa oh oh, kiss him and squeeze him tight

And find out what you wanna know

If it's love, if it really is

It's there in his kiss

(how 'bout the way he acts) Oh no, that's not the way

And you're not listenin' to all I say

If you wanna know if he loves you so

It's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Oh yeah, it's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Oh oh, it's in his kiss (that's where it is)

Stand By Me - Ben E. King (1961)

When the night has come

And the land is dark

And the moon is the only light we'll see

No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me,

oh now now stand by me

Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon

Should tumble and fall

And the mountains should crumble to the sea

I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me

Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me,

oh now now stand by me

Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me

Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Poetry In Motion - Johnny Tillotson (1961)

When I see my baby

What do I see

Poetry

Poetry in motion

Poetry in motion

Walkin' by my side

Her lovely locomotion

Keeps my eyes open wide

Poetry in motion

See her gentle sway

A wave out on the ocean

Could never move that way

I love every movement

And there's nothing I would change

She doesn't need improvement

She's much too nice to rearrange

Poetry in motion

Dancing close to me

A flower of devotion

A swaying gracefully

Whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Whooooooooa

Poetry in motion

See her gentle sway

A wave out on the ocean

Could never move that way

I love every movement

There's nothing I would change

She doesn't need improvement

She's much too nice to rearrange

Poetry in motion

All that I adore

No number-nine love potion

Could make me love her more

Whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Love Letters In The Sand - Pat Boone (1957)

On a day like today

We pass the time away

Writing love letters in the sand

How you laughed when I cried

Each time I saw the tide

Take our love letters from the sand

You made a vow that you would ever be true

But somehow that vow meant nothing to you

Now my broken heart aches

With every wave that breaks

Over love letters in the sand

Now my broken heart aches

With every wave that breaks

Over love letters in the sand

Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland (1939)

Somewhere over the rainbow

Way up high,

There's a land that I heard of

Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Skies are blue,

And the dreams that you dare to dream

Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star

And wake up where the clouds are far

Behind me.

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

Away above the chimney tops

That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Bluebirds fly.

Birds fly over the rainbow.

Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly

Beyond the rainbow

Why, oh why can't I?

If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me) - Bellamy Brothers (1979)

If I said you had a beautiful body

Would you hold it against me

If I swore you were an angel,

Would you treat me like the devil tonight

If I were dying of thirst

Would your flowing love come quench me

If I said you had a beautiful body

Would you hold it against me

Now we can talk all night about the weather

Tell you 'bout my friends out on the coast

I could ask alot of crazy questions

Or I could ask what I really want to know

Now rain can fall so soft against the window

The sun can shine so bright up in the sky

But daddy always told me, "Don't make small talk"

He said, "Come on out and said what's on your mind"

Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis Presley (1956)

Well, since my baby left me,
I found a new place to dwell.
It's down at the end of lonely street
at Heartbreak Hotel.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

And although it's always crowded,
you still can find some room.
Where broken hearted lovers
do cry away their gloom.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

Well, the Bell hop's tears keep flowin',
and the desk clerk's dressed in black.
Well they been so long on lonely street
They ain't ever gonna look back.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

Hey now, if your baby leaves you,
and you got a tale to tell.
Just take a walk down lonely street
to Heartbreak Hotel.

Born Free - Andy Williams (1966)

Born free, as free as the wind blows,
as free as the grass grows,
Born free to follow your heart.
Live free and beauty surrounds you,
the world still astounds you,
Each time you look at the stars.
Stay free where no walls divide you,
you're free as the roaring tide,
So there's no need to hide.
Born free and life is worth living,
but only worth livng,
Cause you're born free.

Bye Bye Love - Everly Brothers (1957)

Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I'm-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love, bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could di-ie
Bye bye my love goodby-eye

There goes my baby with-a someone new
She sure looks happy, I sure am blue
She was my baby till he stepped in
Goodbye to romance that might have been

Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I'm-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love, bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could di-ie
Bye bye my love goodby-eye

I'm-a through with romance
I'm a-through with love
I'm through with a-countin' the stars above
And here's the reason that I'm so free
My lovin' baby is through with me

Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I'm-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love, bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could di-ie
Bye bye my love goodby-eye

Bye bye my love goodby-eye
Bye bye my love goodby-eye

Unforgettable - Nat King Cole (1951)

Unforgettable, that's what you are

Unforgettable, though near or far

Like a song of love that clings to me

How the thoughts of you does things to me

Never before, has someone been more

Unforgettable in everyway

And forever more, that's how you'll stay

That's why darling it's incredible,

That someone, so unforgettable

Thinks that I am unforgettable too

Unforgettable, that's what you are

Unforgettable, though near or far

That's why darling, it's incredible

That someone, so unforgettable

Thinks that I am unforgettable too

The Great Pretender - The Platters (1955)

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender

Pretending that I'm doing well

My need is such I pretend too much

I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender

Adrift in a world of my own

I've played the game but to my real shame

You've left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe

Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Yes, I'm the great pretender

Just laughin' and gay like a clown

I seem to be what I'm not, you see

I'm wearing my heart like a crown

Pretending that you're still around

Too real is this feeling of make-believe

Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Yes, I'm the great pretender

Just laughin' and gay like a clown

I seem to be what I'm not, you see

I'm wearing my heart like a crown

Pretending that you're still around

I Say A Little Prayer - Dionne Warwick (1967)

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little pray for you
While combing my hair now,
And wondering what dress to wear now,
I say a little prayer for you

Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever, we never will part
Oh, how I love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only meen heartbreak for me.

I run for the bus, dear,
While riding I think of us, dear,
I say a little prayer for you.
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break-time,
I say a little prayer for you.

Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me.

I say a little prayer for you
I say a little prayer for you

My darling believe me, ( beleive me)
For me there is no one but you!
Please love me too (answer his pray)
And I'm in love with you (answer his pray)
Answer my prayer now babe (answer his pray)

Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me (oooooooooh)

DO YOU REMEMBER?

Good old days, as people always say, usually said by the older generation are gone and never coming back. That is true, we all agree. But there is no harm to reminisce about it once in a while eh?

Sit down with good company, sipping a cup of hot coffee in hand. Breeze of memories waft by remnants of smells, touches, emotions - the very things that touch us tenderly deep inside our hearts. Mmmm... getting a bit misty-eyed here.

It is hard to say if the now generation ever get this feeling from songs nowadays. Personally, I listen to pop songs on the radio every now and then, especially when driving. There is abundance of singers and bands with their talent, looks and energy, no doubt. But I feel a shortage of memorable songs. It takes a solid singer to take the song to somewhere else, a magical level, a height beyond expectation, if you get what I mean. It is really hard to achieve that with current pop songs. Either that, or I feel a deja-vu of current songs mimicking oldstyle, using old instruments to get the sound of 'those days'.

Seriously, I am not against songs copying the style, if they do it good and remain true to its melody. Any talent can sing a song, but to do it well, to vocalise from the heart, to share the words, the listeners can tell if it is 'honest' singing or simply a karaoke rendition. Or at least I can. Perhaps I am too demanding, and I am foolish to say I do not appreciate new talents much (not that there isn't any new ones). I do not get the immediacy I get from playing most classic song. Play anthing by The Platters, or Skeeter Davis. With the first melody or the first line, it rings an emotion, it transports you to another world.

Do you remember that feeling?

Misty (1954)

Look at me,

I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree

And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud

I can't understand,

I get misty just holding your hand.

Walk my way,

And a thousand violins begin to play

Or it might be the sound of your hello

That music I hear,

I get misty the moment you're near

You can say that you're leading me on

But it's just what I want you to do

Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost

That's why I'm following you.

On my own,

Would I wander through this wonderland alone

Never knowing my right foot from my left,

My hat from my glove,

I'm too misty, and too much in love.

Crying In The Chapel - The Orioles (1953)

You saw me crying in the chapel.

The tears I shed were tears of joy

I know the meaning of contentment

Now I am happy with the Lord

Just a plain and simple chapel

Where humble people go to pray

I pray the Lord that I'll grow stronger

As I live from day to day

I've searched and I've searched

But I couldn't find

No way on earth

To gain peace of mind

Now I'm happy in the chapel

Where people are of one accord

We gather in the chapel

Just to sing and praise the Lord

Ev'ry sinner looks for something

That will put his heart at ease

There is only one true answer

He must get down on his knees

Meet your neighbor in the chapel

Join with him in tears of joy

You'll know the meaning of contentment

Then you'll be happy with the Lord

You'll search and you'll search

But you'll never find

No way on earth

To gain peace of mind

Take your troubles to the chapel

Get down on your knees and pray

Your burdens will be lighter

And you'll surely find the way

Lucille - Little Richard (1957)

Lucille, you won't do your sisters will,

Lucille, you won't do your sisters will,

You ran off and married, but I love you still.

Lucille, please come back where you belong,

Lucille, please come back where you belong,

I've been good to you baby, please don't lead me along.

I woke up this mornin', Lucille was not in sight,

I asked my friends about her but all their lips was tight,

Lucille, please come back where you belong,

I've been good to you baby, please don't lead me along.

Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart,

Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart,

I played love with you baby, and gave you such a wonderful start.

Send In The Clowns (1973)

Isn't it rich, are we a pair

Me here at last on the ground

You in mid-air

Send in the clowns

Isn't it bliss, don't you approve

One who keeps tearing around

One who can't move

Where are the clowns

Send in the clowns

Just when I'd stopped opening doors

Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours

Making my entrance again with my usual flair

Sure of my lines

No one is there

Don't you love a farce,

My fault I fear,

I thought that you'd want what I want

Sorry my dear!

But where are the clowns

There ought to be clowns

Quick send in the clowns

What a surprise,

Who could foresee?

I'd come to feel about you

What you felt about me?

Why only now when I see

That you've drifted away?

What a surprise...

What a cliche...

Isn't it rich, isn't it queer

Losing my timing this late in my career

And where are the clowns

Quick send in the clowns

Don't bother, they're here

(originally written for a musical by Stephen Sondheim)
